Ellen Adams
As a Physical Therapy student, I had a professor who had a profound influence on my entire career and on who I am today. Margaret Rood was both a Physical Therapist and an Occupational Therapist. She would let her students repeat her courses over and over until she thought we “got it”. She taught us to never, ever stop studying, reading, researching or trying out new and different techniques. She insisted that there was something to be learned until the day we died.
The words of this amazing woman have never left my subconscious. Somewhere mid career, I began taking, wondering about and exploring modalities “outside the box” of mainstream P.T. seminars and workshops. First, Upledger’s CranioSacral Therapy, then Reiki Level I to Reiki Master with Ethel Porter, and Beginning Shiatsu. I was off into another world, or so it seemed to me. More seminars, more exposure, more questions than answers. Specifically, I could not get an answer to the changes in me, my patients, and this new path I was on. I soon realized that no matter what modality I used as a practitioner or recipient, the common element was some varying form of energy work. It has been and still is an unbelievable journey. I learn something new from every patient/client I touch and work with. So the lessons continue; the studying, reading, research goes on. Thank you, Margaret Rood!
Currently I’m a Licensed Physical Therapist and have been a Reiki Master for 24 years. One of my specialties is John F. Barnes Myofascial Release, a treatment protocol which significantly reduces pain and releases restrictions from trauma, scar tissue, posture and inflammation. I use it with back and neck pain, chronic pain, restricted motion, sports injuries, headaches and more. Shiatsu, sometimes called acupuncture without needles, is also an underlying treatment modality used in all of my work.
Due to the pandemic, I’m now offering distance reiki sessions.
